Links Here are a collection of links that may help with more information and sources of tools etc that you may find useful. No endorsement or guarantee is given for any of these organisations other than they are ones that we have used several times during the build. |
|
| Tools and stuff |
Screwfix you name it they have it |
| Toolstation, like screwfix, smaller range, but even cheaper | |
| Lawson-HIS power tool specialists, main dealers for Makita kit and keenly priced. | |
| Axminster power tools. A very serious range of tools ranging from the DIY to the industrial. The web site is pretty good, the paper catalogue is awesome! (in fact if there were such a thing as "tool porn" then this would be it!) | |
| Machine Mart, pretty much as the name suggests. | |
|
Materials In many cases the local independent shops offered better value than many of the big chains. However most of these do not have web sites and hence no links! But honourable mention to SAPWOOD DIY in Rochford, and Hockley Plumbing and Heating supplies.

The Loft Shop handy for Colt roof windows (a fair bit cheaper than Velux, but still good quality). |
| Jewson good range of stuff that can be hard to find in DIY shops, although not always that cheap. | |
| Wickes are suprisingly good for basic building materials like sand, & cement, plaster etc. | |
| BES Ltd, the best online plumbers merchant. | |
| TLC Direct, online electrical wholesaler, you name it they have it! | |
| Duraclad, best local supplier of all things plastic! | |
| Regulations / Information | The UK.D-I-Y FAQ and WIKI pages are good first ports of call for many questions! |
| The building regs can be downloaded here, and the Gas safety regs here | |
|
Information on gas fitting with copper pipework, with a handy section on pipe sizing. |
