Sorry about the focus on this one. View through the inlet manifold, with piston TDC - damage to trailing edge of piston visible
Looking from inside we see skidmarks left by something being dragged down into the crank case:
So far not fatal, but it left a score in the piston below the rings. The rings themselves are not apparently damaged and also there is no apparent damage to the combustion chamber part of the cylinder here:
Looking in the exhaust port, the visible cylinder lining looks pristine:
The view into the crank case ain't so pretty! There is a fair amount of metal debris scattered about, with some lumps out of the crank case wall where it looks like the big end has mashed some stray metalwork into it:
Alas our rogue item was not going to stay put, and found its way up the fuel passage into the combustion part of the cylinder, having a lump out in the process:
Its pretty safe to say the bit of the piston you can't see from the inlet or exhaust ports did not appreciate this encounter:
